As part of Public Schools Week activities in the Garden Grove Unified School District, 20 outstanding intermediate school students will be honored for their classroom achievements by local Masons on Tuesday during an awards ceremony.
The students, two from each of the district’s 10 intermediate schools (grades 7-8), will be recognized by the Garden Grove Lodge No. 351 as part of the Masons’ yearly observance of Public Schools Week. The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 11270 Acacia Parkway, Garden Grove.
Selections for the awards were based on such factors as leadership, campus service, citizenship, and academic excellence.
The recipients, by school, are:
Alamitos: David Lozano and Gianhu Nguyen
Bell: Jessica Mendoza and Matthew May
Doig: Hector Perez and Bonnie Bui
Fitz: Salem Gutierrez and Ashley A. Reyes
Irvine: Julian Vu and Anh Nguyen
Jordan: Michael Mac and Trinidad Allred
Lake: Carlos Lopez and Alice Kang
McGarvin: Peshiman Azadzoi and Desiree Gamino
Ralston: Robert Sabino and Samantha Ammann
Walton: Breana Naea and Jocelyn Gutierrez.
Public Schools Month has been sponsored and promoted by the Free and Accepted Masons of California since 1920. Masonic lodges in each area, together with local school districts, select a week in April as a special time for recognizing the contributions of public education.
